Who we are:
- The channel #schizophrenia does peer support for people who suffer from schizophrenia, sza or other forms of mental illness.
- We may discuss our symptoms, our meds, what we think of our doctors and nurses.
- Or talk about the kinds of therapy we have had, which of them we liked, which didn’t work for us and so on.
- However in the channel we don’t give medical advice but do share what worked for ourselves in similar situations.
- We are a small, casual and judgment-free zone where people can discuss both schizophrenia-related topics and everyday life.
- A mix of people with lived experience, family members, friends and those interested in learning about mental illness.
- We have regular participants who provide continuity and community.
- No pressure to always discuss mental health – conversations naturally flow between serious topics and casual chitchat.
(We don’t just chat about being ill. We share all kinds of thoughts and ideas. For example we also discus things like, what’s for dinner, what is a good whiskey but not expensive, reviews on movies and tv series. Some people make music at home and share what they have made in the channel. Or some like to talk about tech stuff, coding or other hobbies)
🌍 Worldwide
There’s people from all over the world in the channel. From Brazil, USA, UK, Netherlands, German, Finland, India, Australia. We do speak only English in the channel. Some chatters who live in the same area/country as others have visited each other but if you prefer to stay anonymous that is perfectly fine, you are not obligated to share personal information.
We have a diverse social-economic background, for instance some visitors have a job, others a parttime job only and there’s also a group of us who live of disabilities.
At the moment of writing most of the channels visitors are of Gen-X gen, some are millennials and few are Gen-Z and some baby boomers. These age ranges are typical for IRC, you’ll find most people on different servers in these age ranges.
